Your Role
We are looking for a Professional Mechanical Engineer (Hydropower) to join our team in Pretoria. This role involves leading the design and project management of hydropower systems, hydromechanical infrastructure, and related projects. You will collaborate with senior engineers, junior engineers, technologists, and technicians to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
✔ Design and project management: Develop detailed designs for hydropower schemes, including run-of-the-river, conventional, and pumped storage systems.
✔ Hydraulic design: Design closed conduit conveyance systems such as penstocks.
✔ Mechanical infrastructure: Undertake mechanical equipment selection and detailed design.
✔ Pump systems: Develop and design pump systems for bulk water infrastructure.
✔ Project leadership: Manage small projects and work as a task lead on medium-sized projects.
✔ Mentorship: Train and guide junior engineers.
✔ Digital modeling: Oversee the development of 3D models and 2D drawings.
✔ Cross-discipline collaboration: Work closely with renewable energy, electrical, civil, and structural teams.
✔ Site visits: Conduct assessments and high-level surveys of existing and new project sites.
✔ Quality control: Review deliverables and compile professional reports.
Minimum Requirements
✅ Education: BSc/BEng in Mechanical Engineering.
✅ Professional Registration: ECSA Professional Engineer (or evidence of application).
✅ Experience: Minimum 6 years in water infrastructure projects.
✅ Skills: Digital modeling experience (preferred).
✅ Industry Knowledge: Experience in dams, hydropower, or bulk water conveyance is advantageous.
✅ Mindset: Passion for innovation and tackling complex engineering challenges.
