Role Overview
The Project Engineer will be responsible for the compliant delivery of engineering projects and the provision of expert engineering services across BME operations. The role focuses on managing the full project life cycle, ensuring that engineering standards, safety legislation, and production frameworks are adhered to throughout design, implementation, commissioning, and handover.
This position requires a technically strong engineer who can operate independently, manage complex stakeholder environments, and contribute to continuous improvement across engineering systems and processes.
Key Responsibilities

Manage the full project life cycle from concept design through implementation, testing, commissioning, and final handover

Design and build production facilities, plants, equipment, automation control systems, and related engineering infrastructure

Develop and maintain equipment repair and maintenance procedures aligned with operational requirements

Ensure all engineering projects comply with regulatory, engineering, project, and formulation standards

Monitor, audit, and improve engineering systems and procedures to drive continuous improvement

Provide subject matter expert advice to internal stakeholders on engineering processes, system malfunctions, and operational procedures

Maintain and update engineering databases to support standardisation, knowledge management, and data integrity

Stay informed on national and international trends in manufacturing and engineering practices

Review and manage engineering service level agreements (SLAs) with vendors, contractors, and third parties

Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act, OHS Act, Explosives Act, and other applicable legislation

Promote effective SHERQ management across engineering projects and operational sites

Analyse performance data and recommend improvements to production software and control systems

Commission production facilities and validate systems against approved design intent

Develop, generate, and maintain engineering training materials for operational stakeholders
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent qualification

Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) is advantageous
Experience Requirements

Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing the full engineering project life cycle

At least 3 years’ experience working on multi-disciplinary engineering projects

Proven experience applying process parameters and material quality requirements

Demonstrated exposure to regulated manufacturing or industrial environments
