๐ŸŒ About the Role

Conservation South Africa (CSA), in partnership with Conservation International (CI), is looking for a passionate and experienced Rangeland Coordinator to support sustainable rangeland management in the Namakwa Landscape. If youโ€™re committed to nature-based solutions, sustainable agriculture, and empowering rural communities, this opportunity is for you.

As a key figure in the Herding for Health (H4H) program โ€” a collaboration between CSA and The Peace Parks Foundation โ€” you’ll help implement innovative livestock management strategies across 700,000 hectares of communal land. This role focuses on improving rangeland health, empowering local farmers, and combating climate change through ecosystem restoration.


๐ŸŒฑ Key Responsibilities

๐Ÿ“ Conservation Agreements

  • Co-design and implement Conservation Agreements with local livestock farmers.

  • Facilitate bi-monthly meetings with farming organizations to ensure agreement compliance.

  • Monitor and verify progress via regular field visits and spot checks.

๐Ÿ„ Herding for Health Support

  • Train farmers in grazing and biodiversity management techniques.

  • Promote climate-resilient livestock breeds and maintain farming infrastructure.

  • Assist in establishing and supporting farmer governing structures and business plans.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Jobs for Nature Coordination

  • Align Jobs for Nature teams with conservation objectives.

  • Ensure teams assist farmers in implementing agreed-upon environmental actions.

  • Facilitate cross-functional training in climate change adaptation and ecosystem-based approaches.

๐Ÿ“Š Monitoring & Learning

  • Coordinate with M&E officers for data collection and submission.

  • Conduct annual workshops and impact surveys.

  • Gather spatial and vegetation data to support adaptive livestock management.


โœ… Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2โ€“4 years of experience working with communal livestock farmers.

  • Practical knowledge in livestock management and infrastructure in semi-arid areas.

  • Strong grasp of climate change adaptation and nature-based solutions.

  • Fluent in Afrikaans and English.

  • Valid driverโ€™s license and willingness to travel locally and regionally.

Desirable:

  • Diploma or Degree in Agriculture, Environmental, or Conservation-related field.

  • GIS and data analysis experience.

  • Experience in value chain development and land restoration projects.
