Job Overview

The Reduction Operator plays a vital role within the Metallurgical Plant, ensuring consistent operational efficiency in sampling, sample preparation, engineering backfill, and chemical offloading. This position requires strict adherence to safety, environmental standards, and plant procedures to maintain high standards of quality and operational performance.


Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the health and safety of yourself and team members by applying relevant safety standards and procedures
• Contribute to the culture of Zero Harm by consistently following health, safety, environmental, and security policies
• Collect representative QAQC samples of ore, concentrate, backfill, and other materials at varied stages of plant operations
• Maintain and clean sampling equipment—such as sample cutters, crushers, and splitters—to support accurate sample collection
• Supervise safe chemical transfer from delivery vehicles to designated storage tanks or processing equipment
• Maintain accurate records of off-loaded quantities, chemical identities, and any service observations or incidents
• Clean up all spills or leaks after chemical offloading, ensuring that spilled chemicals are contained, neutralised, and disposed of according to operational standards
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping in assigned areas
• Work overtime and shifts as required in support of operational needs and production schedules


Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification
• Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in a metallurgical plant, engineering backfill, and chemical offloading environment
• Valid driver’s licence
• Valid surface TM3 equipment licence(s)
• Declared medically fit for the work environment through a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass the Heat Tolerance Screening and any required suitability tests


Key Competencies

• Proven track record in personal safety leadership
• Proficiency in understanding and applying relevant safety and technical Standard Operating Procedures
• Knowledge of basic Cyanide Management SOPs (International Cyanide Management Institute)
• Knowledge of sampling and sample preparation techniques
• Ability to work independently and deliver results within tight timelines
• Good spoken and written English communication skills
• Effective interpersonal, collaborative, and communication abilities
• Basic computer literacy
