Role Summary
The Registered Nurse – AICU is responsible for delivering comprehensive, high-quality intensive care nursing aligned with SANC regulations and hospital standards. This position requires clinical precision, patient advocacy, continuous monitoring of critically ill patients, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in a high-acuity care environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Patient Care & Clinical Excellence

Deliver patient-centred, evidence-based nursing care in accordance with SANC regulations, DOH guidelines, and National Core Standards.

Perform ongoing patient assessments, interpret vital signs, and implement tailored care plans for stable and unstable AICU patients.

Conduct ward rounds, document clinical findings, and collaborate with Doctors and Specialists to update treatment plans.

Ensure safe medication administration, accurate record-keeping, and consistent monitoring of patient responses.
2. Quality, Compliance & Protocol Adherence

Promote patient advocacy by upholding the Patient Rights & Responsibility Charter and the SANC Acts and Omissions.

Participate actively in internal and external audits (DOH, SHERQ, National Core Standards, Risk Audits).

Apply infection control principles, ICU safety standards, and hospital protocols rigorously.

Maintain accountability for continuous professional development (CPD).
3. Unit Leadership & Team Coordination

Supervise, guide, and support professional nurses, ENAs, and ENs to maintain optimal therapeutic standards.

Monitor staff activities during unit rounds, ensuring adherence to procedures, patient safety, and risk management guidelines.

Lead by example in creating a positive, safe, and ethically sound environment for both patients and staff.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Education
-
Nursing Degree or Diploma
-
Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)
-
BLS certification plus updated ACLS/PALS/ATLS
Experience
-
Minimum 2+ years’ post-registration ICU nursing experience
-
Experience in a private hospital environment is advantageous

Computer literacy beneficial
