SANBS is seeking a Registered Enrolled Nurse to join the Blood Collection Department. The role focuses on assessing donor eligibility, performing blood collection procedures, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring donor satisfaction across various blood donation types.

This position is ideal for an enrolled nurse who is detail-oriented, patient-focused, and committed to supporting safe, ethical, and efficient blood collection practices.


🩺 Main Purpose of the Job

The Registered Enrolled Nurse is responsible for:

  • Assessing the acceptability of blood donors according to defined clinical protocols.

  • Performing blood collection procedures such as Whole Blood, Autologous/Designate, Double Red Cell, and Apheresis Platelet collections.

  • Ensuring all procedures comply with SANBS Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Supporting the team in achieving daily collection targets and maintaining smooth operational flow.

These responsibilities are performed as part of routine daily operations and contribute directly to ensuring a safe, efficient national blood supply.

  • Assist with efficient clinic setup and closure to support daily blood collection targets.

  • Complete donor registration professionally, accurately, and timeously.

  • Conduct Basic Physical Assessments to determine donor suitability.

  • Perform phlebotomy procedures in accordance with SOPs, ensuring donor safety and comfort.

  • Carry out essential administrative tasks such as documentation, tracking, and reporting.

  • Supervise clinic processes where needed, ensuring adherence to professional standards and protocols.
