About the Role:

Fresenius Medical Care is seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at the Lesedi 2 Dialysis Clinic in Johannesburg. As a key member of our clinical team, you’ll play a vital role in the care and treatment of patients with chronic kidney disease. This position requires excellent clinical skills, a compassionate approach to patient care, and a commitment to ensuring patient safety.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Admission & History Recording:

  • Conduct patient admissions, record and update medical and surgical histories
  • Communicate with the billing department and ensure accurate information for patient records

Dialysis Procedure Management:

  • Obtain dialysis prescriptions from the treating nephrologist or physician
  • Ensure machines are disinfected and prepared before use
  • Line and prime dialysis machines with the correct consumables
  • Weigh patients and calculate dry weight and fluid removal

Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Monitor vital signs and record baseline readings
  • Ensure adherence to NephroCare standards for good dialysis care, hygiene, infection control, and water concentrate
  • Accurately record and report patient data using Euclid and TDMS

Patient Education & Medication Administration:

  • Educate patients on renal disease, treatment options, and dietary restrictions
  • Administer prescribed medications per doctor’s orders

Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure environmental safety and infection control standards are met
  • Adhere to immunization policies and other regulatory protocols

Clinical Documentation & Stock Control:

  • Regularly update patient files and document incidents
  • Assist with stock ordering and control, ensuring supplies are available as needed

Qualifications & Skills Required:

🎓 Education & Training:

  • Registered General Nurse diploma or equivalent degree
  • SANC (South African Nursing Council) certification

💡 Skills & Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of renal anatomy, physiology, and the treatment of kidney disease
  • Clinical proficiency in aseptic techniques, infection control, venepuncture, and CPR
  • Experience with dialysis procedures and patient monitoring
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • High attention to detail with precise record-keeping
