About the Role:
Fresenius Medical Care is seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at the Lesedi 2 Dialysis Clinic in Johannesburg. As a key member of our clinical team, you’ll play a vital role in the care and treatment of patients with chronic kidney disease. This position requires excellent clinical skills, a compassionate approach to patient care, and a commitment to ensuring patient safety.
Key Responsibilities:
✔ Patient Admission & History Recording:
- Conduct patient admissions, record and update medical and surgical histories
- Communicate with the billing department and ensure accurate information for patient records
✔ Dialysis Procedure Management:
- Obtain dialysis prescriptions from the treating nephrologist or physician
- Ensure machines are disinfected and prepared before use
- Line and prime dialysis machines with the correct consumables
- Weigh patients and calculate dry weight and fluid removal
✔ Monitoring & Reporting:
- Monitor vital signs and record baseline readings
- Ensure adherence to NephroCare standards for good dialysis care, hygiene, infection control, and water concentrate
- Accurately record and report patient data using Euclid and TDMS
✔ Patient Education & Medication Administration:
- Educate patients on renal disease, treatment options, and dietary restrictions
- Administer prescribed medications per doctor’s orders
✔ Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure environmental safety and infection control standards are met
- Adhere to immunization policies and other regulatory protocols
✔ Clinical Documentation & Stock Control:
- Regularly update patient files and document incidents
- Assist with stock ordering and control, ensuring supplies are available as needed
Qualifications & Skills Required:
🎓 Education & Training:
- Registered General Nurse diploma or equivalent degree
- SANC (South African Nursing Council) certification
💡 Skills & Experience:
- Strong knowledge of renal anatomy, physiology, and the treatment of kidney disease
- Clinical proficiency in aseptic techniques, infection control, venepuncture, and CPR
- Experience with dialysis procedures and patient monitoring
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- High attention to detail with precise record-keeping
