π Role Overview
The Palliative Nurse is responsible for delivering compassionate, holistic care to Discovery Health members at the palliative stage of care. You will ensure comfort, dignity, and quality of life for patients while providing guidance and support to families during the illness and bereavement process.
You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team and adhere to the principles of palliative care as defined by the World Health Organization.
π§ Key Responsibilities
π₯ Clinical Care

Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and pain management.

Administer medications including IV therapies and syringe drivers.

Manage symptoms such as nausea, dyspnoea, delirium, dementia, and wounds.

Provide hands-on nursing care during terminal phases.
π₯ Family & Patient Support

Support psychosocial and spiritual needs of patients and families.

Guide families through end-of-life care and bereavement.

Educate patients and families for informed decision-making.
π Care Coordination & Documentation

Collaborate with doctors, social workers, and multidisciplinary teams.

Monitor care quality and adjust care plans accordingly.

Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care.

π Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Bachelorβs Degree or Diploma in Nursing

Registered and practicing with HPCSA
-
5-day Introduction to Palliative Care training
-
6β12 months experience in palliative care
-
Computer literate
-
Valid driverβs license with own transport
