Overview

The University of Pretoria, a leader in research excellence and diversity, invites applications for the position of Research Nurse in the Department of Internal Medicine. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to pioneering TB research and clinical studies within a dynamic academic environment.


Responsibilities

✔️ Participant Engagement:
   • Identify and discuss study details with potential participants for TB studies (cough evaluation study, point of care device study)
   • Obtain voluntary informed consent in line with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) principles

✔️ Data Management:
   • Complete demographic and clinical data collection from patient records
   • Ensure accurate documentation of study procedures and follow-up information

✔️ Clinical Procedures:
   • Perform phlebotomy, including blood draws and specimen collection using sterile techniques
   • Conduct LIT and PSP point of care tests as required

✔️ Study Administration:
   • Administer and manage study documentation, including proper filing and storage of informed consent forms
   • Dispose of medical waste safely in designated containers
   • Verify source files and follow up on patient results


Minimum Requirements

✔️ Educational Qualifications:
   • Bachelor of Nursing Science (Education and Administration)

✔️ Certifications & Registration:
   • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification
   • Current registration as a Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)

✔️ Essential Skills:
   • Proficiency in clinical procedures (vital signs, basic examinations)
   • Competence in phlebotomy and informed consent processes
   • Strong data capturing and administrative abilities


Remuneration & Application Process

The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position is commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, in accordance with University of Pretoria policy guidelines.
