The University of Pretoria (UP) is inviting applications for a Research Nurse position in the Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research in infectious diseases and make a real impact in the medical field.

Key Responsibilities ✅

The successful candidate will provide high-level administrative and clinical support in TB research studies, including:

✔ Participant Identification & Recruitment – Screening and selecting individuals for studies (e.g., cough evaluation, point-of-care device study).
✔ Patient Engagement – Discussing study details, obtaining voluntary informed consent (as per GCP guidelines), and ensuring patient understanding.
✔ Clinical Data Collection – Completing patient demographic and clinical records.
✔ Phlebotomy & Specimen Collection – Performing blood draws, specimen collection, and ensuring proper handling in a sterile manner.
✔ Point-of-Care Testing – Conducting LIT and PSP tests as required.
✔ Follow-ups & Record-Keeping – Ensuring proper documentation, follow-ups on patient results, and maintaining study accuracy.
✔ Compliance & Safety – Proper disposal of medical waste and ensuring compliance with research protocols.

Minimum Requirements 🎓

🔹 Bachelor of Nursing Science (Education & Administration)
🔹 Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certification
🔹 Registered Nurse with the South African Nursing Council

Essential Competencies 💡

✔ Clinical Skills – Proficient in vital sign checks and basic examinations.
✔ Phlebotomy Expertise – Experience with blood collection and handling.
✔ Informed Consent Process – Ability to guide patients through informed consent protocols.
✔ Data Capturing & Administration – Accurate record-keeping and patient data entry.
