RESEARCHER: VIROLOGY (CROP PROTECTION) THREE YEARS (3) FIXED TERM CONTRACT

As part of our dynamic team, you will play a crucial role in advancing national projects aimed at safeguarding crop health and productivity.
Location: Gauteng, Pretoria
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and actively contribute to national projects focused on mycology and crop protection.
- Utilize your expertise to effectively identify and manage project resources, including human capital, equipment, and materials.
- Coordinate collaborative efforts across interdisciplinary teams to maximize research outcomes and impact.
- Conduct comprehensive research activities, including experimental design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation, to generate valuable insights and recommendations.
- Effectively communicate research findings through engaging oral and poster presentations, ensuring dissemination to relevant stakeholders.
- Publish research outcomes in reputable scientific journals, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field.
- Establish and nurture strong relationships with national stakeholders and strategic partners to secure funding and support for research initiatives.
- Provide expert diagnostic and advisory services at a national level, leveraging your knowledge to address critical challenges in crop protection.
- Actively participate in technology transfer and promotion activities, including presentations, workshops, and training sessions, to facilitate the adoption of innovative solutions.
Requirements:
- A Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Microbiology, or closely related disciplines is preferred. Alternatively, candidates with an MSc and significant work experience, coupled with progress towards a Ph.D., will also be considered.
- Proven track record of peer-reviewed scientific publications in relevant fields, demonstrating your expertise and contribution to the scientific community.
- Experience in project management, including the ability to effectively plan, execute, and monitor research activities to achieve project objectives.
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring and supervising postgraduate students, fostering their development and contributing to the growth of future scientists.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts clearly and effectively.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite for data analysis, report writing, and communication purposes.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license, as occasional travel may be required.
