Job Overview

TotalCare People is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Residential Registered Nurse to join our team in Fourways, Sandton. This role is vital in optimising resident health and well-being by assisting with daily living activities under the supervision of a registered nurse. Key Responsibilities

✔️ Resident Health & Well-Being:
   • Assist with activities of daily living and ensure residents receive quality care.
   • Follow established procedures to maintain professional standards in resident care.

✔️ Patient Assessment & Monitoring:
   • Take accurate patient histories and conduct comprehensive physical assessments on admission.
   • Perform special observations such as blood pressure monitoring and physical checks after a fall.
   • Assess patient acuity levels and record all incidents thoroughly.

✔️ Clinical Care & Medication Management:
   • Monitor resident vital signs, including PI, glucose levels, and skin integrity daily.
   • Conduct tests like urine analysis and administer various medications (intramuscular, intravenous, subcutaneous, oral, inhalation, ear, and eye) accurately.
   • Prepare medication orders, check stock accuracy, and manage the drug cupboard efficiently.

✔️ Personal & Preventative Care:
   • Provide mouth, pressure, eye, and catheter care as required.
   • Change wound dressings following proper protocols and demonstrate basic cardio-pulmonary resuscitation when necessary.

✔️ Staff & Resource Management:
   • Ensure proper back and pressure care for residents and monitor fluid balance and bowel actions.
   • Manage shift start registers, staff delegation, and emergency procedures including handover of keys, alarm watch, and emergency phone.
   • Conduct in-service training for care staff to uphold quality standards.

✔️ Resident Administration & Documentation:
   • Record and monitor resident transfers, discharges, and incident reports accurately.
   • Maintain complete nursing care plans, admission/discharge registers, allergy forms, and resident information cards.
   • Ensure residents’ valuables, medical aid status, and outing books are accurately managed.


Essential Requirements

✔️ Professional Registration:
   • Registered with SANC (South African Nursing Council) as an Enrolled Nurse or Registered Nurse.

✔️ Experience & Education:
   • Experience in long-term care or geriatric care is highly valued.
   • Must be able to work a minimum of 16 shifts per month, including day and night shifts.

✔️ Additional Skills:
   • Strong knowledge of resident care procedures and medication administration.
   • Ability to effectively document care and manage clinical resources.
   • Excellent communication skills and a passion for enhancing the quality of life for residents.
