Job Overview:
TotalCare is looking for a Residential Registered Nurse to join our team in Fourways, Sandton. This role involves optimizing resident health and well-being by assisting with daily activities and ensuring high-quality nursing care under direct or indirect supervision. You’ll play a crucial role in the health and safety of residents, performing various medical procedures while maintaining professional standards.
Key Responsibilities:
🩺 Resident Health & Care:
- Take accurate patient history and conduct physical assessments on admission.
- Perform daily checks including blood pressure, glucose levels, and urine tests.
- Conduct special observations and pressure care for residents.
- Administer medications (oral, IV, IM, inhalation, ear/eye) and oxygen therapy as necessary.
- Change wound dressings, perform mouth care, and assist with catheter control and eye care.
- Monitor residents’ skin integrity and other vital signs.
📋 Medication Management:
- Administer and track medication (oral, injectable) and document accurately.
- Prepare blister packs and order medication through administration.
- Monitor, record, and replenish medical stock in the emergency cupboard.
- Ensure the proper handling and management of the drug cupboard.
👩⚕️ Staff Management:
- Supervise and monitor care staff to ensure correct execution of daily rounds.
- Conduct in-service training to maintain high care standards.
- Complete attendance registers and shift management duties.
🏥 Resident Documentation:
- Complete and maintain Nursing Care Plans for new admissions.
- Monitor transfers and discharges and keep accurate records of residents’ movements.
- Track resident diet and ensure dietary needs are communicated to relevant parties.
- Document family visits and ensure proper orientation of families and visitors.
📝 Administrative Duties:
- Ensure proper handling of residents’ valuables and complete relevant forms on shift handovers.
- Maintain allergy forms, medical aid status, and other essential records.
- Ensure timely referrals to hospitals when necessary.
Requirements:
🎓 Education & Registration:
- Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
💼 Experience:
- Previous experience in long-term care (geriatric care).
- Ability to work 16 shifts per month, including day and night shifts.
