About the Role

Prestige Clothing, a manufacturing division within The Foschini Group (TFG), is seeking skilled Sample Machinists capable of producing complete garments from concept to final stitch. In this position, you will play a crucial part in transforming design concepts into production-ready samples that meet strict quality and construction standards.

This role requires versatility, precision, and a strong understanding of garment construction techniques across multiple fabric types. You will collaborate with designers, production teams, and quality specialists to ensure every sample meets both technical and aesthetic expectations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble complete garments from patterns, sketches, and Sample Bags originating from the Design Centre.

  • Operate a wide range of sewing machinery used in sample creation.

  • Adapt garment assembly techniques to ensure they are efficient and suitable for future production runs.

  • Evaluate garment construction challenges and collaborate with relevant team members to resolve issues.

  • Maintain high standards of sample quality and compliance with internal specifications.

  • Work under tight timelines while delivering accurate and consistent sample finishes.

  • Ensure all sample garments align with TFG’s established product and quality benchmarks.


Minimum Requirements

  • Valid Service Record Card (SRC) registered with the Bargaining Council.

  • Ability to operate multiple sewing machine types proficiently.

  • Able to read, write, and interpret patterns, sketches, and technical information.

  • Capable of sewing a wide range of garment types, including pants, tops, skirts, dresses, and jackets.

  • Experience working with various fabric types such as knits and woven materials.

  • Strong understanding of garment construction principles.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities.

  • Knowledge of garment quality standards and production expectations.

  • Strong communication skills, reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet demanding deadlines.

  • A team-oriented attitude and willingness to learn continuously.
