Job Overview

The YES4Youth Cash Processor Programme offers unemployed youth the opportunity to gain 12 months of practical workplace experience in the cash management industry.

Participants will support cash processing operations including receiving deposits, sorting banknotes, processing coins, performing reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with security and operational procedures. Successful candidates will work in a secure and professional environment while gaining exposure to operational processes used by banks and financial institutions.


Key Responsibilities

Cash Receiving

  • Receive deposits and update them on the applicable systems

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures to eliminate risks to the company and customers

Preparing Cash on Systems

  • Inspect containers or deposit bags for damages or tampering and report anomalies to the Team Controller

  • Acknowledge containers or bags on the applicable system

  • Process deposits in line with agreed bank SLAs and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Prepare workstations correctly to enable efficient note counting

Note Sorting

  • Sort prepared deposits or notes for FDP / ACDP processing within the required cut-off times

  • Send rejected notes to the Reject Teller together with deposit slips, PCD cards, and stop-loss bags for verification

  • Record deposit details including client name, date, denominations, number of bundles, and operator name for camera verification

  • Balance deposits and report discrepancies to the Team Controller

  • Complete production sheets

  • Record machine downtime and obtain technician signatures where applicable

  • Ensure end-of-day bundles are verified by the Team Controller

Reconciliation of ACDP Deposits

  • Reconcile rejected notes to validate information

  • Manually inspect rejected notes for counterfeit, dye-stained, or mutilated notes

  • Transfer cash to vaults when required

  • Perform end-of-day balancing and reconciliation of all cash received

  • Process shortages and surpluses according to Standard Operating Procedures

Desktop Deposit Processing

  • Check containers or deposit bags for damage or tampering and report anomalies

  • Acknowledge containers on the applicable system

  • Ensure deposits remain separated per customer

  • Process all deposits on the same day they are received

  • Balance deposits on the system and complete reconciliation processes

  • Prepare deposits accurately to support efficient note counting

Coin Processing

  • Process bulk coin deposits according to company policies and procedures

  • Sort and process teller coin transfers

  • Record details including client name, date, denomination, and operator name for verification

  • Verify bins, seals, denominations, and bin registers

  • Count bags to match bin registers and denominations

  • Open bags to load coin wagons

  • Clear machine jams when required

  • Balance coins per client deposit and report discrepancies

  • Complete end-of-day reconciliation

Bank System Integrated Processing

  • Validate all system-integrated transactions according to bank service level agreements

  • Inform client services of account numbers not linked to bank systems to prevent delays

  • Verify deposit account numbers to avoid losses or misposting

  • Escalate system downtime or delayed processing to the Team Controller

Payroll and Change Processing

  • Process payroll and change transactions according to client service level agreements

  • Report discrepancies to the Team Controller promptly

  • Seal floats in drop-safe bags with packing slips and place them in trolleys as required

  • Process payroll entries within bank timeframes

  • Report equipment defects to the Team Controller

  • Obtain bank authorisation before dispatching transactions as required

Treasury / Prepack Operations

  • Assist with accurate packing and unpacking of bank and ATM cash

  • Manage consumables used in packing processes

  • Ensure bag and seal numbers are correctly recorded

Equipment Management

  • Operate equipment according to Standard Operating Procedures

  • Protect and maintain company assets

  • Clean machines before and after each shift

Governance and Compliance

  • Align with ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Standards and maintain compliance

  • Support the companyโ€™s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives

  • Promote organisational values and culture

Change and Communication

  • Support business changes to ensure operational continuity

  • Assist with the integration of processes across departments

  • Communicate updates on procedures and processes

  • Participate in workshops, presentations, and internal forums when required


Qualifications

Education

  • Grade 12 / Matric with Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy

Experience

  • Previous experience is not required

  • 6 months cashier or teller experience will be advantageous

Skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Good numerical ability

  • Ability to follow strict procedures and security protocols

  • Good communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to work accurately under pressure
