The Sector Specific Trainee Programme is a structured 12-month training initiative designed to develop a pipeline of skilled talent for key operational roles within Transnet Port Terminals. Learners are placed in functional areas aligned with their academic background, career aspirations, and business needs. Preference will be given to candidates residing in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.


🎯 Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily operational tasks according to allocated equipment

  • Handle cargo and commodities in line with operational requirements

  • Complete logbooks and accurately record equipment defects

  • Operate data terminals and maintain system records where applicable

  • Maintain work-related radio communication

  • Monitor equipment performance and identify faults

  • Report incidents, accidents, and daily operational activities

  • Operate safety equipment such as fire extinguishers when required

  • Adhere to all terminal safety policies and procedures

  • Sign into the terminal operating system (Navis)

  • Follow on-screen system instructions and acknowledge task completion

Education:

  • Grade 12 / Matric (Essential)

  • TVET N6 in Logistics or Transport (Advantageous)

Experience:

  • No prior experience required (training programme role)

Skills & Competencies:

  • Knowledge of terminal safety rules and regulations

  • Understanding of various cargo types and terminal equipment

  • Good communication and literacy skills

  • Defensive driving ability

  • Strong hand-eye coordination and depth perception

  • Planning, time management, and problem-solving skills

  • Computer literacy

  • Good judgement, punctuality, and safety-driven attitude

  • Team player with a strong work ethic
