JOB OVERVIEW

The Security Specialist is responsible for safeguarding the organisation’s physical, personal, and operational assets by identifying vulnerabilities, implementing proactive security measures, and responding to threats. This role focuses on aviation and logistics security compliance and is not a security guard position.

The incumbent will develop and enforce security policies, conduct risk assessments, manage third-party security providers, and ensure compliance with SACAA, IATA, ICAO, and TAPA requirements to minimise risk and prevent loss or harm.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure all required security certifications remain valid and compliant (e.g. TAPA, SACAA Part 108)

  • Formulate and implement air-cargo security policies in line with CARS Regulation Part 108

  • Develop, implement, and enforce company-wide security standards and procedures

  • Ensure personnel training compliance with SACAA, IATA, and TAPA requirements

  • Act as the accountable person for aviation security initiatives and statutory projects

  • Manage third-party security service providers and ensure policy adherence

  • Conduct risk assessments and implement enhanced security measures during elevated threat periods

  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, government departments, and external stakeholders

  • Collect, analyse, and report security intelligence to management

  • Conduct inspections, audits, document reviews, and corrective action follow-ups

  • Investigate incidents, misconduct, crime, or unlawful interference

  • Coordinate polygraph testing when required

  • Develop, maintain, and enforce SOPs and conduct security training and inductions


QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Matric / Grade 12

  • Security Management qualification (advantageous)

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar security or aviation security role

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of SACAA CATS and Part 108 regulations

  • Knowledge of aviation security, investigations, and law enforcement practices

  • Quality assurance and audit experience

  • Strong planning, organisational, and time management skills

  • Ability to work under pressure and respond to threats

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
