About the Seed Production Internship

The Seed Production Internship provides hands-on exposure to agricultural research and commercial seed production within a field-based environment. This role is ideal for graduates seeking practical experience in plant breeding support, crop production, and seed quality management.

As an intern, you will assist with end-to-end seed production activities across multiple crops, gaining valuable exposure to research farm operations, data collection, inventory management, and field team coordination. This internship is designed to build a strong technical foundation in seed production while developing essential teamwork and leadership skills.


Key Responsibilities

Seed Production and Field Operations

  • Support efficient workflow across multi-crop production systems, including sunflower and corn

  • Assist with planting, pollination, harvesting, processing, packing, and inventory activities

  • Conduct quality pollinations while learning basic plant breeding principles

  • Participate in field management activities including printing and tagging nursery experiments

Data Collection and Quality Control

  • Collect and record flowering and production data accurately

  • Manage seed inventory records, including updates and discard processes

  • Scout for plant diseases, pests, and weeds and support rouging activities to maintain seed quality

Team Supervision and Coordination

  • Assist with supervising permanent and seasonal field teams

  • Work collaboratively with farm staff to ensure smooth daily operations

  • Support safety-related activities, including daily safety briefings

Specialised Research Support

  • Assist with sterilisation activities, leaf punching, and oil testing in sunflower crops

  • Support research scientists with operational tasks linked to trial execution

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or a related scientific field such as Plant Breeding or Crop Production

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams

  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work extended hours during peak season

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
