Role Overview
-
The Senior Credit Analyst – VP plays a pivotal role within the Resources & Project Finance Credit Risk team.
-
The position is responsible for managing a high-value client portfolio, providing expert credit risk assessments, and guiding critical risk decisions.
-
This function spans the entire credit lifecycle, from facility granting and implementation to monitoring, restructuring and risk reporting.
-
The role requires strong analytical capability, commercial judgement, and the ability to present risk insights to senior stakeholders and committees.
Key Responsibilities
-
Conduct full-spectrum credit risk analysis for the Resources & Project Finance portfolio.
-
Prepare detailed credit applications and recommendations for decision-making committees.
-
Oversee granting, implementing, monitoring and restructuring of credit facilities.
-
Produce monthly risk reports and management information (MI) with insights and commentary.
-
Present aggregate portfolio risk analyses to senior management.
-
Maintain accurate exposure and risk data across all relevant systems.
-
Monitor covenant adherence, facility conditions and potential deviations.
-
Manage due diligence records, terms, conditions, and outstanding securities.
-
Identify and escalate risks early based on client performance trends.
-
Utilise and support development of credit risk systems, tools and automated processes.
-
Manage operational, administrative and compliance aspects of the client portfolio.
-
Build and sustain relationships with internal and external business partners.
-
Ensure the portfolio remains within defined risk appetite levels.

Adhere to Absa’s credit risk policies, processes and risk philosophy.

Maintain compliance with relevant legislation governing the credit lifecycle.

Complete all required compliance training, updates and controls on time.

Education & Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Economics or a related field (required).
-
CA(SA), CFA or relevant postgraduate qualification (advantageous).
-
Minimum 5 years’ experience in credit risk, mining, oil & gas, or project finance sectors.

Experience preparing credit applications, managing complex facilities and presenting to senior risk committees.
