This role sits within Hatch’s Project Delivery Group (PDG), a world-class team responsible for delivering complex engineering and infrastructure projects using industry-leading governance, systems, and methodologies.


Role Overview

The Senior Contracts Engineer will provide senior-level contract administration and commercial support to the Resident Engineers (REs), Chief Resident Engineer (CRE), and the Engineer / Project Manager. Reporting directly to the Resident Engineer, the role is critical to ensuring construction contracts are administered accurately, fairly, and in full compliance with contractual obligations.

This is a site-based resident role, with limited rotation and rest (R&R limited to one weekend per month). The position requires strong technical, contractual, and stakeholder coordination skills within a live construction environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Administer construction contracts in accordance with the applicable Conditions of Contract

  • Interpret contract provisions and support the adjudication of contractor claims

  • Coordinate with design, supervision, and engineering teams to ensure timely issue of construction drawings

  • Liaise with Quantity Surveyors to ensure accurate measurement and verification of quantities

  • Evaluate and recommend approval of contractor financial submissions, including monthly payment certificates

  • Review contractor claims and entitlements in consultation with project stakeholders

  • Support technical teams by reviewing contractor submissions such as programmes, method statements, designs, and manuals

  • Assess the need for variations and coordinate their issuance in line with agreed procedures

  • Assist with drafting and issuing written instructions to contractors

  • Coordinate and formalise quality control documentation and contract records

  • Ensure proper maintenance of construction supervision records, progress reports, and site data

  • Evaluate subcontracting requests and provide recommendations for consent

  • Contribute to reporting on progress, cost control, cash flow forecasts, and contractor performance

  • Liaise regularly with the Employer, Contractor, and external parties on contractual and technical matters

  • Support dispute resolution processes up to amicable settlement stages

  • Assist the FIDIC Engineer with claim acknowledgements and initial responses


Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline

  • Extensive experience in senior contract administration roles on construction or infrastructure projects

  • Strong working knowledge of FIDIC or similar international contract frameworks

  • Proven experience operating in site-based, resident engineer environments
