Job Overview
WSP is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join its Mine Waste team in Midrand. The role involves delivering high-level geotechnical engineering services across mining, infrastructure, and property sectors. The successful candidate will manage projects, perform technical analysis, mentor junior staff, and contribute to business development while ensuring compliance with safety and engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage geotechnical and geological projects, including multidisciplinary assignments
- Conduct site investigations for tailings facilities, infrastructure, and buildings
- Interpret geotechnical data and provide technical recommendations
- Prepare proposals, tenders, reports, and technical documentation
- Perform field observations and oversee geotechnical investigations
- Characterize ground conditions and material properties
- Supervise technicians and junior engineers on-site
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
- Support business development and client engagement activities
- Prepare and deliver presentations to clients
- Mentor and train junior team members
Qualifications
Education
- Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Postgraduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering (preferred)
Experience
- Minimum of 8 yearsβ post-graduate experience
- Proven experience in geotechnical investigations (factual and interpretive)
- Experience across mining, infrastructure, and property sectors
- Professional registration with ECSA
Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Solid knowledge of soil and rock mechanics
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Leadership and mentoring capabilities
- Ability to work independently and within a team
