Senior Hydraulics Engineer – High Energy Systems & Hydrodynamic Effects at AECOM

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and review advanced designs for high-energy hydraulic structures (e.g., spillways, plunge pools, stilling basins).

Conduct sophisticated hydraulic modelling, including 2D/3D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and physical model assessments.

Evaluate hydrodynamic loads, cavitation risks, air entrainment, and transient effects on structures.

Collaborate seamlessly with civil, structural, and geotechnical teams to deliver integrated design solutions.

Prepare and contribute to comprehensive technical reports, specifications, and detailed design documentation.

Support project planning, design reviews, and client presentations with clear technical communication.
Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, or related discipline (Master’s degree preferred).

A minimum of 8 years’ experience in hydraulic design for dams, hydropower stations, or similar infrastructure projects.

Strong proficiency in hydraulic modelling tools such as Flow3D, HEC-RAS, OpenFOAM, or equivalent.

Solid understanding of physical modelling methods, scale effects, and high-energy hydraulic phenomena (water hammer, cavitation, air entrainment).

Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional Chartership (ICE, Engineers Australia, or equivalent) is advantageous.

Excellent technical reporting and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex results clearly.
