🎯 Role Overview

The Senior Lecturer will provide leadership in the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies, facilitating high-quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, conducting impactful research, supervising postgraduate students, developing curriculum, and engaging with communities. This is an opportunity to contribute to the academic and societal impact of UWC’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities.


🛠️ Key Responsibilities

📚 Teaching & Learning

  • Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

  • Develop and update curricula and assessments aligned with academic standards.

  • Mentor students and support their academic progression.

🔬 Research & Scholarly Work

  • Conduct original research and publish in reputable peer-reviewed journals.

  • Participate in academic conferences both locally and internationally.

  • Support applications for research grants and funded projects.

🎓 Postgraduate Supervision

  • Supervise Honours, Master’s, and PhD students.

  • Ensure timely completion of postgraduate research projects.

🤝 Community Engagement & Outreach

  • Integrate community engagement with learning, teaching, and research.

  • Contribute to projects that deliver societal impact.

🧭 Academic Leadership & Administration

  • Provide leadership within the department, including program and staff development.

  • Support faculty administration and governance initiatives.

  • Ensure alignment with UWC strategic priorities and policies.


📘 Minimum Requirements

  • PhD in Women’s and Gender Studies or closely related field.

  • 3–5 years of teaching experience in higher education.

  • Record of quality peer-reviewed publications (minimum 4 articles/books).

  • Successful supervision of at least 2 Master’s students.

  • Evidence of integrating community engagement with teaching and research.

  • Strong verbal and written communication in English.
