Role Overview
The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer will contribute to teaching, research, academic leadership and student development in the field of Risk Management. The position requires the delivery of high-quality learning experiences, postgraduate supervision, curriculum development, and active participation in research and professional activities.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
β’ Conduct tutorials, practical classes, workshops, demonstrations, and seminars
β’ Deliver high-quality lectures across undergraduate and postgraduate modules
β’ Facilitate student excursions, studio sessions, and field activities where applicable
Curriculum Development
β’ Develop and update subject material in alignment with academic standards
β’ Prepare course content, learning guides, assessment tools and study materials
β’ Align curriculum to new technologies and modern teaching platforms
Supervision & Student Development
β’ Supervise postgraduate students (coursework and research)
β’ Mentor students academically and guide them through research processes
β’ Monitor academic progress and provide constructive feedback
Research, Innovation & Professional Activity
β’ Conduct independent and collaborative research
β’ Publish academic outputs and contribute to the research profile of the School
β’ Participate in professional development and academic conferences
β’ Engage with the risk management profession to stay abreast of industry trends
Assessment & Academic Administration
β’ Prepare, administer and moderate assessments
β’ Maintain academic records and comply with University quality assurance processes
β’ Participate in School and Faculty committees where required
Minimum Requirements
Lecturer
β’ Masterβs degree in Risk Management (NQF Level 9)
β’ Minimum 2 years lecturing experience
Senior Lecturer
β’ PhD in Risk Management (NQF Level 10)
β’ Minimum 3 years lecturing experience
β’ Minimum 2 years postgraduate supervision experience (Masters & Doctoral)
Added Advantages
β’ Professional registration with bodies such as ECSA, SACNASP or SAICA
β’ Membership with IRMSA or CISA
β’ Demonstrated research outputs and publications
Key Functional / Technical Competencies
β’ Proficiency in MS Office applications
β’ Strong understanding of assessment theories and student performance enhancement
β’ Experience using modern teaching and learning platforms (e.g., eFundi, whiteboard tech)
β’ Commitment to student development and learning excellence
β’ Ability to produce research outputs aligned with institutional standards
