This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of a growing, international retail group with operations in both South Africa and the United Kingdom.

Based at our head office in Cape Town, this is a strategic role that requires a dynamic legal expert with a proven track record in corporate and commercial law. You will play a key part in ensuring legal compliance, supporting complex commercial transactions, and guiding the business through the evolving regulatory landscape.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

• Drafting, reviewing, and approving a variety of commercial agreements.

• Providing expert legal advice, guidance, and written opinions on a wide range of commercial matters.

• Monitoring and advising on legal developments, including new Acts and amendments relevant to the retail sector.

• Offering specialist guidance on key regulatory frameworks such as:

  • National Credit Act (NCA)

  • Consumer Protection Act (CPA)

  • Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA)

  • Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA)

  • Company law and tax legislation

• Managing dispute resolution and litigation processes:

  • Investigating case merits

  • Consulting with attorneys and internal teams

  • Overseeing legal proceedings through to resolution

• Assisting with Mergers & Acquisitions, including legal due diligence.

• Advising on intellectual property issues such as trademarks, copyrights, and designs.

• Enforcing and advising on restraint of trade and regulatory compliance matters.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB)

• Admission as an attorney in South Africa

Experience:

• Minimum 10 years’ post-articles experience in a corporate legal environment

• Strong background in commercial contracts and corporate transactions

• Familiarity with key South African regulatory Acts (NCA, CPA, POPIA, FICA)

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Management/leadership experience is a plus
