About the Role
The Senior Professional Nurse β Medical plays a critical leadership and clinical support role within the medical unit. Reporting to the Unit Manager, this position ensures safe, high-quality patient care, mitigates clinical risks, assists in coordinating care delivery, and enhances the overall patient experience.
The role also includes overseeing clinical activities, guiding junior staff, supporting resource utilisation, and driving continuous development and mentoring within the nursing team. This position is ideal for an experienced nurse who thrives in a structured, fast-paced hospital environment and is passionate about professional growth, patient advocacy, and consistent clinical excellence.
Key Responsibilities

Ensure comprehensive, evidence-based and safe patient care aligned with clinical quality standards.

Proactively identify and mitigate clinical risks within the unit.

Manage and support the overall client experience to promote patient satisfaction.

Optimise staffing resources through effective planning, deployment, and retention.

Develop staff competence through ongoing mentoring, coaching, and professional assessment.

Provide direct patient care and ensure effective clinical decision-making.

Support the Unit Manager with operational oversight and day-to-day coordination.

Assist with managing expenses, including stock usage, consumables, and capital equipment.

Maintain accurate nursing documentation and uphold compliance with legislative requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
Essential:

Professional Nurse qualification
-
Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (required when managing a specialist unit e.g., Perioperative Nursing)

Experience
Essential:

Minimum 3 yearsβ experience as a Professional Nurse in a hospital environment

Minimum 1 year mentoring or preceptorship experience
