πŸ“˜ Role Overview

The Senior Reinsurance Accountant is responsible for accurate financial control, reinsurance accounting, balance sheet integrity, technical reporting, and portfolio oversight for non-life reinsurance structures.
This role is senior and highly specialised, involving complex proportional and non-proportional reinsurance activities, leadership of junior accountants, and direct engagement with brokers, reinsurers, clients, and management.
You will also drive improvements in reporting, ensure accuracy of reinsurance financials, support portfolio managers, and maintain tight control over reconciliations and month-end processes.


πŸ”§ Key Responsibilities

πŸ“Š Financial Accounting

  • Perform and manage balance sheet reconciliations for all non-life reinsurance clients.

  • Process month-end proportional reinsurance transactions, including cash calls and ad-hoc adjustments.

  • Engage with the finance team to understand financial movements.

  • Provide internal and external reporting on reinsurance financial results.

πŸ“˜ Technical Reinsurance Accounting

  • Oversee proportional and non-proportional reinsurance accounting for non-life cell captive portfolios.

  • Prepare, reconcile, and communicate reinsurance accounts to the market, reinsurers, clients, and internal teams.

  • Manage comprehensive claims accounting for both proportional and non-proportional reinsurance.

  • Monitor renewals, premium adjustments, and treaty terms.

  • Maintain credit control on reinsurance client portfolios.

  • Engage with senior management on portfolio performance and exposures.

  • Provide portfolio servicing and support alongside portfolio managers.

  • Resolve reinsurance queries and escalate issues where necessary.

  • Prepare renewal information and manage client reporting for allocated portfolios.

  • Oversee sub-ledger management and all associated reporting.

  • Assist with preparation of Manco reports and quarterly reinsurance reviews.

  • Lead and support assistant accountants, ensuring accuracy and development.

  • Clear long-outstanding balance sheet items.

🀝 Stakeholder Engagement

  • Attend reinsurer meetings and present relevant financial information.

  • Attend meetings with reinsurance brokers and represent financial perspectives.

  • Build strong internal and external relationships to improve portfolio performance.

  • BCom Degree (essential).

🧠 Experience

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in a Reinsurance Accountant role.

  • Advanced knowledge of proportional and non-proportional reinsurance structures.

  • Experience working in cell captive insurance environments is advantageous.
