About the Role:
Ford Motor Company is looking for an experienced Senior Specialist in Employee Relations to join their team in Pretoria. This role is key in ensuring labour stability across Ford’s manufacturing operations. As the Senior Specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing relationships between management and unions, advising on labour-related policies, and representing Ford at various labour relations forums such as the CCMA. A strong background in labour relations, particularly in a highly unionized environment, is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
πΉ Labour Relations Management

Ensure effective management of labour relations processes and procedures across Ford Manufacturing

Build and maintain constructive relationships between management and unions

Advise on the strategic application and implementation of policies, ensuring they are aligned with current labour legislation
πΉ Conflict Resolution & Negotiation

Provide expert advice on the disciplinary and grievance processes, ensuring consistency in enforcement

Represent the company at CCMA hearings and other labour forums

Implement effective mediation strategies to resolve conflicts between management and employees
πΉ Training & Development

Conduct Industrial Relations (IR) training for Ford Manufacturing leadership, including managers, supervisors, and team leaders

Develop and lead initiatives that foster a cooperative relationship between management and unions
πΉ Policy & Process Optimization

Maintain and review labour-related policies to ensure compliance with changing legislation
-
Analyze trends in labour relations and suggest improvements to optimize collective agreements

Ensure all IR procedures are effectively documented and followed
πΉ Stakeholder Engagement

Facilitate regular meetings between management and organized labour

Support the implementation of IR structures within the business to ensure smooth day-to-day operations

Advise both management and employees on the interpretation and application of union/company agreements

Required Qualifications & Experience:
π Education:

Degree in Labour Relations, Human Resources, or LLB

Preference will be given to candidates with an LLB degree
π Experience:
-
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in labour relations within a manufacturing or unionized environment

Proven experience in representing employers at the CCMA or Bargaining Council
-
Demonstrated ability to handle complex disciplinary and grievance procedures
π Skills & Competencies:

Sound knowledge of labour legislation and the ability to apply it effectively

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
-
Strong conflict resolution and mediation skills

Ability to interpret and apply union/company agreements

Capable of working independently with a high level of discretion
