📝 About the Position

Seriti is looking for a Senior Surveyor (C5) to lead the mine survey team at Kriel Colliery. This role supports the delivery of accurate survey data, spatial planning, volumetric measurements, and quality reporting essential for safe, efficient mining operations.

The Senior Surveyor assists the Section Surveyor, ensures compliance with standards, manages daily survey activities, and supports continuous mining operations by ensuring accurate spatial information and reporting.


🎯 Key Responsibilities

📐 Survey Leadership & Daily Operations

  • Lead, organise and coordinate the daily activities of the survey team.

  • Manage manpower, equipment, and workflow to meet operational survey requirements.

  • Perform survey duties independently when required to maintain uninterrupted operations.

  • Stand in for the Section Surveyor when delegated.

🗺️ Technical Survey Functions

  • Establish directional control, volumes, and mine measurements for both surface and underground environments.

  • Conduct volumetric surveys for mining operations and compile detailed mining plans.

  • Generate production reports, ad-hoc reports, and survey notes.

  • Capture and calculate survey information using CAD and volumetric software approved by Seriti.

📡 Equipment & Technology

  • Operate GPS systems for tacheometric surveys and staking of mining boundaries.

  • Use theodolites or total stations for accurate point measurement.

  • Place survey markers for control stations or planned layouts.

  • Perform calibration, maintenance, and cleaning of survey instruments and vehicles.

  • Execute drone-based surveys, scanning, and photogrammetry tasks with precision.

🌧️ Field & Compliance Duties

  • Measure dam water levels and update hydrographic records.

  • Participate actively in on-site job safety assessments.

  • Prepare plans for mining operations, borehole staking, and directional line placements.


🎓 Minimum Requirements

📘 Qualifications

  • BTech, BSc, National Diploma, National Higher Diploma OR

  • CoM Advanced Survey Certificate OR

  • CoM Elementary Survey Certificate + recognised relevant experience.

  • Recognition of Prior Learning may be accepted.

💼 Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Surveyor.

  • Membership of IMSSA (required).

🧠 Technical Knowledge

  • Intermediate understanding of:

    • Mine Health and Safety Act

    • Minerals Act

    • MPRDA

    • ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001

    • Seriti policies and operational standards

  • Advanced proficiency in survey software including:

    • MicroStation

    • Terrasolid

    • Model Maker

  • Ability to calibrate instruments and operate survey equipment safely and accurately.

  • Strong knowledge of survey principles, mining methods, and data modelling.

💻 Computer Literacy

  • MS Office (required)

  • SAP (required)

🚗 Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s licence

  • Ability to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
