The University of Pretoria (UP) invites passionate and skilled veterinary professionals to apply for the role of Senior Veterinary Nurse: Small Animal Surgery at the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital (OVAH). Key Responsibilities ✅
- Clinic Management: Oversee hygiene, stock control, equipment maintenance, and safety measures.
- Supervision: Lead and support personnel in the veterinary clinic.
- Anaesthesia & Sedation: Administer and monitor anaesthesia and sedation for small animals.
- Emergency Procedures: Handle urgent veterinary cases with precision and care.
- Client Communication: Interact with pet owners, providing updates and guidance.
- Training & Development: Instruct students and team members on surgical nursing techniques.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work in various OVAH sections and perform shift duties.
Minimum Requirements 📌
✔ Qualification: Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (DipCurAnim, Dip Vet Nursing) or BVetNurse, or an equivalent qualification.
✔ Registration: Must be registered as a Veterinary Nurse with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).
✔ Experience: At least 1 year of experience in veterinary nursing and clinic management.

- Expertise in small animal surgical nursing procedures and biosecurity measures.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication and client service abilities.
- High attention to detail and a responsible, professional demeanor.
- Physical mobility to perform hands-on nursing tasks.
- Ability to work under pressure and without supervision.
- Computer literacy and adaptability to veterinary software.
- Willingness to work weekends, after hours, and shift duties when required.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience 🌟
- Prior experience in surgical veterinary nursing and clinic management will be an advantage.
