The 2030 Water Resources Group (WRG):
The WRG is a multi-donor trust fund that addresses water security through public-private partnerships. With a focus on Water for Food, Water for Environment, and Water for Cities, WRG supports the implementation of innovative solutions across developing countries.
Role Overview:
The Senior Water Specialist will be based in Pretoria, South Africa, and will play a vital role in leading and implementing the WRG’s programs in the region. The specialist will work closely with the World Bank teams, government officials, private sector partners, and civil society to tackle water-related challenges and drive impactful change.
Key Responsibilities:
- ✔️ Lead WRG South Africa Program: Oversee the country program, ensuring alignment with WRG’s Strategic and Operational Plans.
- ✔️ Identify New Opportunities: Scale WRG’s efforts in the region, expanding into new areas and fostering new partnerships.
- ✔️ Produce Analytical Reports: Lead the development of high-quality technical assessments, ensuring rigorous quality control.
- ✔️ Fundraising and Resource Mobilization: Engage with potential partners and funding sources to ensure financial sustainability for regional programs.
- ✔️ Engage with Stakeholders: Actively collaborate with government officials, business leaders, and civil society to promote water security solutions.
- ✔️ Support Communication Efforts: Work with WRG’s communications team to enhance visibility and thought leadership globally and regionally.
Key Selection Criteria:
- ✔️ Education: Master’s degree in Water-related fields (e.g., Environment, Engineering, Economics, Business Strategy).
- ✔️ Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in program management, business development, and private sector development, particularly in water or environmental sectors.
- ✔️ Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of water sector policy, technical drivers, and the political economy of water reforms.
- ✔️ Leadership: Proven track record of managing regional programs and leading cross-sector initiatives.
- ✔️ Networking: Established relationships with key stakeholders in water, climate, and environmental sectors.
- ✔️ Communication Skills: Outstanding verbal and written communication in English. Knowledge of local South African languages is a plus.
- ✔️ Experience with WRG Partners: Familiarity with the current WRG country partners and water security initiatives is an advantage.
