π§βπΌ Role Overview
The Shaft Ventilation Engineer will manage and coordinate the mineβs ventilation and occupational hygiene systems, providing operational management with specialized technical guidance to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. The role focuses on medium- to long-term planning (1β5 years) while proactively addressing emerging trends in ventilation and occupational hygiene.
π Key Responsibilities
π Ventilation & Occupational Hygiene Management

Ensure compliance with Section 11 and 12 of the Mine Health and Safety Act (Occupational Health Risk Assessment and Monitoring)

Advise management on operational ventilation and occupational hygiene systems, planning, and administration
-
Establish and maintain technical standards and management information systems
-
Lead emergency preparedness programs and high-level technical projects
-
Conduct trend analysis to identify and solve ventilation and hygiene issues
-
Develop and implement ventilation and occupational hygiene policies, procedures, and standards
-
Benchmark systems against international best practices and audit findings
π Operational Planning & Risk Management

Set daily, weekly, and monthly ventilation and occupational hygiene targets
-
Conduct hazard identification, risk assessments, and system audits
-
Forward scan trends to anticipate future ventilation and hygiene challenges

Provide leadership in ventilation and occupational hygiene technology studies
π Qualifications & Experience
Essential Qualifications:
-
Relevant tertiary qualification
-
Elementary certificate in Mine Environmental Control
-
Chamber of Mines (COM) Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
Experience:
-
5+ years post-qualification experience in ventilation and occupational hygiene
-
Competence in Occupational Hygiene Practitioner functions per MHSA (5.1(1), 9.2(2), 16.1(1), chapter 12.1)
Knowledge & Skills:
-
Occupational Health legislation
-
Hazard identification and risk assessment
-
Management system formulation and implementation
-
Proficiency in MS Office, SAP, and specialized technical software such as Palladium
