SHE Compliance Officer – Ensure Safety & Compliance Excellence
Are you passionate about workplace safety and compliance? A leading company in KwaZulu Natal is looking for a dedicated SHE Compliance Officer to develop, implement, and oversee health, safety, and environmental (SHE) programs. This permanent position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and compliant working environment by ensuring adherence to regulations, conducting risk assessments, and promoting continuous improvement.
About the Role
As the SHE Compliance Officer, you will be the cornerstone of the company’s safety initiatives. You will collaborate with line management and employees to ensure compliance with SHE policies and legal requirements, conduct audits, investigate incidents, and facilitate training. Your goal is to help foster a strong safety culture that minimizes risk and protects everyone on site.
Key Responsibilities

Assist in managing SHE risk and incident management activities.

Execute and report on SHE audits to assess compliance and control effectiveness.

Ensure all health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations are reviewed, updated, and communicated regularly.

Support the adoption of SHE strategies aligned with the site’s SHE policy and goals.

Conduct daily site inspections and provide recommendations to ensure compliance with legislation and company procedures.

Propose improvements, corrective actions, and resource plans for closure of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).

Plan, schedule, and coordinate SHE investigations and incident reporting.

Facilitate risk assessments and safe operating procedures, including Behavioral Based Safety observations.

Monitor employee adherence to SHE requirements and conduct issue-based training such as PPE usage.

Participate in internal SHE audits, workplace inspections, and ensure timely closure of identified gaps.

Monitor chemical, biological, physical, and ergonomic hazards and advise employees and management on preventive measures.

Conduct housekeeping audits and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Manage contractor safety, including conducting site safety inductions.

Ensure all accidents and incidents are properly documented, investigated, and improvements are implemented.

Perform other SHE-related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Experience
-
Matric certificate and a National Diploma in Safety Management (minimum).

Recognized certificates in ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 implementation.

Experience with SHE systems auditing, working at heights, contractor management, and environmental management qualifications is advantageous.

Strong knowledge of the OHS Act and SHE management systems.

Minimum 3 years’ experience in food manufacturing or heavy industry preferred.
