🎯 Main Purpose of the Role

The SIG Machine – Armourplate intern is responsible for operating the SIGU double glazing machine, supporting production workflows, and ensuring all glazing products meet strict quality and safety standards. The role requires a hands-on, detail-oriented individual who can work fast, accurately, and safely in a demanding production environment.

🛠️ Responsibilities

🔍 Glass Inspection & Measurement

  • Read and measure incoming glass with precision using a tape measure.

  • Inspect glass for scratches, breaks, uneven edges, and non-conformities.

  • Check that all materials meet customer specifications before processing begins.

⚙️ Machine Operation & Technical Accuracy

  • Operate the double glazing machine (SIGU) and ensure all settings meet job card requirements.

  • Run start-up checks and adjust machine controls to align with glass specifications.

  • Perform routine maintenance on glazing machines, desiccant machines, and related production equipment.

  • Ensure warm water levels and cleanliness of water tanks for optimal washing machine performance.

🧩 Production & Assembly

  • Verify correct spacers for customer product designs.

  • Pair glass units correctly prior to assembly.

  • Build SIG units according to design specs and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

  • Apply both primary and secondary seals as per job card details.

📄 Documentation & Data Accuracy

  • Complete documentation both electronically and manually.

  • Maintain daily production records:

    • ✔️ Quantities

    • ✔️ Dimensions

    • ✔️ Square & cubic meters

    • ✔️ Material type

  • Scan and confirm glass quality before moving to the next station.

🧹 Safety, Cleanliness & Compliance

  • Follow all safety requirements and immediately report unsafe activity.

  • Keep workstations clean, organised, and compliant with 5S standards.

  • Ensure all glass moving to the next station is correctly labelled and accompanied by the right job card.

🤝 Team Support

  • Assist with additional production or operational duties as needed.

  • Collaborate with supervisors and team members to meet daily production targets.

🎓 Critical Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 (Matric)

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year in glass processing (advantageous)

  • SAP system exposure (advantageous)
