ROLE PURPOSE

The Senior Consultant will join a growing team delivering contaminated land assessment and remediation services within a downstream Oil & Gas client programme. The role requires strong project management capability, technical expertise in contaminated sites, and experience working at petroleum retail sites for major oil companies.

The incumbent will also have opportunities to contribute to broader projects across the mining, waste, and industrial sectors.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical input across contaminated land projects including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and remediation programmes.

  • Manage and oversee fieldwork activities including soil, groundwater, vapour sampling, aquifer testing, and remediation system operations.

  • Prepare remedial options analyses, remedial action plans, and conceptual remediation designs.

  • Draft high-quality technical reports ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with client objectives.

  • Coordinate laboratory services and interpret environmental data for reporting and decision-making.

  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring delivery within scope, time, and budget.

  • Oversee project documentation, reporting, archiving, and quality management system updates.

  • Manage invoicing, WIP, cash collection, and personal KPIs.

  • Support business development through proposal preparation and client engagement.

  • Build and maintain strong client, regulator, and stakeholder relationships.

  • Promote and enforce Health & Safety requirements specific to subsurface investigations and contaminated sites.

  • Mentor team members and contribute to continuous improvement and programme efficiency.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Geology, Hydrogeology, Earth Science, or similar discipline.

  • Postgraduate qualification in a related field.

  • More than 7 yearsโ€™ relevant professional experience, including at least 3 years in a project management role.

  • Proven experience working on petroleum retail or downstream Oil & Gas sites.

  • Sound knowledge of South African environmental legislation.

  • Proficiency in MS Office, with advanced Excel and Word skills.

  • Relevant professional registration or certification.

  • Valid driverโ€™s licence and willingness to travel.
