Job Purpose:

The Western Cape Government Department of Social Development is seeking a Social Work Manager for the West Coast Region. The role is focused on delivering social welfare and community development services, ensuring the promotion of social change, solving problems in human relationships, and empowering individuals to enhance their social well-being. This position is stationed in Stellenbosch/Paarl/Worcester.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Service Delivery: Oversee the provision of advanced and specialized social welfare and community development services, ensuring the care, support, and protection of vulnerable individuals, groups, families, and communities.
  • Program Development: Facilitate the development and planning of programs and interventions, and manage the efficient use of financial resources.
  • Management: Supervise and manage service delivery areas (units), ensuring effective human resource utilization and high-quality service delivery.
  • Research: Plan and oversee social welfare and community development research, including complex research projects.
  • Administration: Ensure all required administrative functions are performed efficiently, and keep updated with developments in the field.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Formal tertiary qualification in Social Work (e.g., Bachelor of Social Work) that allows professional registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
  • Registration: Compulsory registration with SACSSP as a Social Worker.
  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of appropriate and recognizable experience in social work after registration with SACSSP.
  • Driving License: A valid driving license is recommended. Candidates with disabilities who cannot drive but have access to transport may also apply.

Remuneration:

  • Grade 1: R920,082 – R1,052,016 per annum
  • Grade 2: R1,094,508 – R1,289,274 per annum

Note: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages include all costs related to service benefits, including salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, and pension contributions.
