Job Purpose
The Department of Social Development, Western Cape Government, seeks qualified social workers to provide services within the region. Responsibilities include promoting social change, problem-solving in human relationships, and empowering individuals to enhance social well-being.
Minimum Requirements
- Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work allowing professional registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
- Registration: Must be registered with SACSSP as a Social Worker.
- Experience:
- Grade 1: No experience required.
- Grade 2: Minimum of 10 years of experience in Social Work after registration.
- Grade 3: Minimum of 20 years of experience in Social Work after registration.
- Grade 4: Minimum of 30 years of experience in Social Work after registration.
Recommendations
- License: A valid (Code B or higher) driving license.

- Provide social work services regarding the care, support, protection, and development of vulnerable individuals, groups, families, and communities.
- Address social instability issues.
- Supervise and support social auxiliary workers.
- Stay updated with new developments in social work and social welfare.
- Perform administrative duties required for the role.

- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and standards.

- Skills in social work theory, interventions, and information management.

Remuneration
- Grade 1: R308,247 – R362,439 per annum
- Grade 2: R376,417 – R436,014 per annum
- Grade 3: R452,667 – R532,113 per annum
- Grade 4: R554,919 – R687,918 per annum
Note: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages include basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. For non-CTE positions, service benefits or obligations are funded as per applicable agreements.
