🔹 Key Responsibilities
As a Primary School Social Worker, you will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team working to support scholars’ holistic well-being. Your responsibilities will include:

Individual Counselling: Conduct confidential one-on-one sessions for scholars experiencing emotional distress, academic struggles, or family-related issues. Develop tailored intervention plans to enhance emotional well-being and academic performance.

Group Counselling: Facilitate group sessions that teach life skills such as peer communication, stress coping strategies, conflict resolution, and time management.

Crisis Intervention: Offer immediate support to scholars facing traumatic experiences or mental health crises. Collaborate with school leaders and relevant external agencies for follow-up support.

Academic Collaboration: Work closely with teachers and parents to identify learners in need. Support learners with tools to manage school stress and develop productive habits.

Preventive Programming: Design and implement school-wide initiatives to promote positive behaviour, reduce bullying, and raise awareness about mental health and well-being.

Advocacy & Referrals: Act as an advocate for scholars’ needs while connecting them and their families to professional external services when needed.

Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate, confidential records of sessions and progress. Provide regular reports to school leadership and guardians to ensure accountability and goal tracking.
🎓 Minimum Requirements

Education: A minimum of NQF Level 8 qualification (Honours/Postgraduate Diploma) in Social Work.

Professional Registration: Must be registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).

Experience: At least 3 years’ experience in counselling within a primary school setting.

Skills:

Strong counselling and crisis management skills

Understanding of child development

Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Languages:
-
Must be fluent in English
-
Ability to understand and speak at least four (4) South African languages
