Role Overview

As a Specialist Product Engineer, you will be responsible for developing high-performance, scalable applications using critical thinking, automation, and agile DevOps practices. You’ll take ownership of technical solutions from inception to production, helping shape the future of digital banking in South Africa and across the African continent.

Key Responsibilities

🔧 Development & DevOps

• Deliver high-quality, well-documented, and optimized code.

• Participate in all phases of the development lifecycle.

• Debug, test, and improve new and existing applications.

• Implement CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and similar tools.

• Automate deployments and configurations using Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, etc.

• Monitor application performance using tools like Grafana, NewRelic, Prometheus.

🛠️ System Integration & Architecture

• Align designs with group architecture standards and infrastructure policies.

• Implement secure, testable, and resilient software solutions.

• Apply design thinking and system modelling to business requirements.

👥 Collaboration & Communication

• Engage in peer reviews, testing sessions, and agile team activities.

• Work closely with integrated teams and stakeholders across the tech ecosystem.

• Contribute to change management documentation and user material development.

⚠️ Risk Management & Governance

• Proactively identify and mitigate technical risks.

• Participate in incident response and disaster recovery planning.

• Maintain comprehensive documentation that complies with governance frameworks.

Requirements

📘 Educational Qualification

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field.

🧠 Experience and Skills

• Solid understanding of modern software development practices and agile methodologies.

• Strong knowledge of DevOps pipelines, container orchestration (Kubernetes), and observability tools.

• Proficient in secure coding, problem-solving, and performance optimization.

• Experience working in hybrid or cloud-native environments is advantageous.
