Role Overview:
As the Technical Director for Water Resources Management, you will play a pivotal leadership role in our growing water resources team. Your primary responsibility will be to manage and lead complex water-related projects, from feasibility studies to flood risk assessments and water demand analysis, across diverse geographies such as southern Africa, Africa, and the Middle East. You will bring strong commercial acumen and a leadership approach to inspire and guide multidisciplinary teams while delivering sustainable solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
✔ Project Leadership & Strategy:
- Lead the planning, design, and implementation of a wide variety of water resources projects, including hydrological analysis, stormwater analysis, open channel hydraulics, and water demand analysis.
- Manage multi-disciplinary project teams across different regions, ensuring timely delivery of projects and effective resource management.
- Develop and maintain client relationships, ensuring high-quality service and the growth of new opportunities.
✔ Technical Expertise & Consulting:
- Conduct feasibility studies, master planning, flood risk assessments, and systems analysis.
- Provide expert advice on water resources modelling, data analytics, spatial analysis, and information management systems.
- Lead the facilitation of workshops and stakeholder engagement to drive successful project outcomes.
✔ Leadership & Mentorship:
- Take on a leadership role in Zutari’s Water Resources Management team, mentoring and developing junior engineers and fostering a collaborative environment.
- Provide training and capacity-building opportunities for team members and clients alike.
✔ Bid Management & Reporting:
- Lead bid preparation and technical report writing, ensuring high-quality, professional submissions.
- Maintain a strong focus on quality assurance, project governance, and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
✔ Business Development & Growth:
- Drive business growth by identifying opportunities to expand the water market within Zutari.
- Develop strategic relationships with clients and stakeholders to support the company’s long-term goals.
Minimum Requirements:
✔ Education & Qualifications:
- A BSc Eng/BEng in a relevant civil engineering discipline. A postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng.) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
✔ Experience:
- At least 15 years’ experience in civil engineering, with a focus on water resources management.
- Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects in water resources and related sectors.
- Strong project management skills, with a focus on quality assurance, governance, and client relations.
✔ Skills & Competencies:
- Exceptional leadership and mentoring abilities to manage and inspire teams.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), with the ability to interact with senior stakeholders.
- Strong time management, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and maintain high standards of quality in a fast-paced environment.
