Job Overview

The Trade Accountant will support Glencore’s UK-based Oil & Gas trading entities from Johannesburg. The role focuses on accurate financial reporting, reconciliations, internal controls, and collaboration with global stakeholders.

This position suits a technically strong and self-driven professional who thrives in a fast-paced commodity trading environment and can manage remote stakeholder relationships effectively.


Key Responsibilities

πŸ”Ž Reconciliations & Controls

  • Perform intercompany balance reconciliations.

  • Conduct Front-to-Back reconciliations (Front Office vs Back Office systems).

  • Complete P&L and balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Reconcile inventory and broker accounts.

  • Match third-party invoices and cash transactions.

πŸ’° Financial & Treasury Support

  • Assist Treasury and Front Office with cash allocations.

  • Analyse debtors and creditors (including ageing analysis).

  • Post month-end journals.

πŸ“Š Reporting & Audit

  • Contribute to financial statements and management accounts.

  • Liaise with auditors on management and statutory audits.

  • Support system upgrades and process automation initiatives.

  • Provide management reporting and financial analytics.

🌍 Global Collaboration

  • Work closely with UK, US, Swiss, and Singapore teams.

  • Support remote functions and resolve queries efficiently.


Qualifications

πŸŽ“ Education

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.

  • Qualified CA(SA), ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or CFA (Required).

πŸ’Ό Experience

  • Experience within a best-practice controls environment.

  • SAP or ERP system experience (Advantageous).

  • Commodity trading and multinational exposure preferred.

  • Exposure to technical accounting documentation beneficial.

🧠 Skills

  • Advanced Excel and strong IT proficiency.

  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure.

  • Adaptable, proactive, and comfortable with remote collaboration tools (e.g., Teams).

  • Fluent in Business English.
