🚛 Job Overview

The Transport Officer plays a critical support role within the North East of Scotland Breast Screening Service. Based at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and traveling to various locations—including Grampian, Orkney, and Shetland—you’ll ensure the smooth transportation, operation, and maintenance of mobile breast screening units.

This part-time position requires someone reliable, flexible, and committed to upholding the high standards of a nationally recognised and essential screening programme.


🧾 Key Responsibilities

  • Drive mobile breast screening units safely to assigned sites.

  • Perform light mechanical and electrical maintenance on mobile units.

  • Conduct daily equipment checks including generators and hydraulic systems.

  • Diagnose faults and escalate complex issues to contracted maintenance providers.

  • Maintain excellent communication with the breast screening support team and site managers.

  • Demonstrate flexibility with travel, start times, and operational needs—start times may vary based on location.

  • Represent NHS Grampian with professionalism and respect when engaging with the public and internal teams.


🔧 Skills & Requirements

  • Valid, clean UK driver’s licence (HGV licence not required).

  • Proven knowledge of basic mechanical/electrical tasks, including the operation of small generators and hydraulics.

  • Strong problem-solving ability to diagnose and manage operational issues.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work early mornings (core hours 6am–10am) and be adaptable to changing schedules.

  • Team-oriented with a strong sense of accountability and care for public services.

  • Demonstrated reliability and initiative in independent working environments.
