🚛 Tyre Assistant – Join Unitrans | Kuruman, Northern Cape

Unitrans is looking for a skilled Tyre Assistant to join the team at our Mega Bus – Kuruman operation. This permanent position falls under our Commuter Contracts Division and plays a critical role in maintaining our fleet’s tyre integrity and roadworthiness. 📍 Location:

• Kuruman, Northern Cape, South Africa

📘 Minimum Qualifications:

• Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent

• Technical/mechanical training in transport maintenance is a plus

✅ Minimum Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience in a similar role (tyre technician/assistant)

• Sound knowledge of tyre maintenance and safety protocols

• Familiarity with vehicle components: rims, studs, hubs, nuts, etc.

• Strong understanding of health and safety standards

• Proactive, assertive, and able to work under pressure

🔧 Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Inspect tyres and related components for wear, damage, and road safety

• Repair and replace tyres, rims, tubes, and wheels

• Inflate tyres according to manufacturer specifications

• Stock and manage tyres weekly; assist with ordering replacements

• Perform roadside repairs and service calls when needed

• Remove, rotate, and remount tyres using tools and hydraulic jacks

• Conduct pressure testing and balancing

• Locate and patch punctures using adhesives and vulcanization methods

• Assist mechanics with general vehicle servicing

• Ensure proper disposal of scrap metal and old components

• Keep storage areas organized and maintain safety standards

• Hydraulic jacks, scrapers, grinders, sandblasters

• Rubber hammers, tire irons, pressure gauges

• Vulcanization plates, adhesive patches, and rubber cements
