The City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality invites applications for the TLMA-V-2026 Vehicle Mechanics Apprenticeship Programme, hosted at the Tshwane Leadership and Management Academy (TLMA) in Pretoria West. This apprenticeship forms part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to skills development, artisan training, and youth empowerment within the public sector.

Through its Learning and Development Division, the City of Tshwane is an accredited training provider, offering structured apprenticeship programmes that combine theoretical instruction with practical, work-integrated learning.


About the Apprenticeship Programme

This Vehicle Mechanics Apprenticeship is designed to equip participants with the technical knowledge, hands-on experience, and workplace exposure required to succeed as qualified artisans in a highly competitive labour market. Apprentices will receive formal training aligned to industry standards, supported by experienced facilitators and workplace mentors.

The programme targets motivated individuals who are passionate about mechanical trades and committed to completing a demanding, skills-based training pathway.


Key Responsibilities and Learning Areas

  • Participate fully in theoretical and practical vehicle mechanics training

  • Complete work-integrated learning under supervision at designated facilities

  • Learn vehicle inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repair processes

  • Apply occupational health and safety principles in workshop environments

  • Use tools, equipment, and diagnostic systems according to trade standards

  • Maintain training records and comply with apprenticeship requirements

  • Demonstrate discipline, professionalism, and commitment throughout the programme


Minimum Requirements

  • Technical Matric, NCV Level 4, or N2 Certificate

  • Mathematics and Physical Science passed

  • Relevant trade theory related to vehicle mechanics

  • Strong interest in becoming a qualified artisan

  • Willingness to commit fully to the apprenticeship duration

  • Passion, discipline, and enthusiasm for technical work

  • Applicants who already hold a trade certificate in any related trade will not be considered

  • Applicants must submit truthful and accurate information

Stipend Information
