The City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality invites applications from motivated and technically inclined individuals for the TLMA-W-2026 Welding Apprenticeship Programme, hosted at the Tshwane Leadership and Management Academy (TLMA) in Pretoria West.

This apprenticeship forms part of the municipality’s commitment to artisan development, skills transfer, and youth empowerment, addressing critical technical skills shortages within South Africa.


About the Welding Apprenticeship Programme

The Learning and Development Division of the City of Tshwane is an accredited training provider offering structured apprenticeship programmes that combine formal theoretical instruction with hands-on, work-integrated learning.

The Welding Apprenticeship equips learners with essential technical, practical, and workplace competencies required to qualify and perform effectively as professional welders in industrial and municipal environments.


Key Responsibilities and Learning Areas

  • Participate in structured theoretical and practical welding training

  • Perform welding techniques such as arc welding, gas welding, and fabrication

  • Interpret technical drawings, welding symbols, and specifications

  • Operate welding tools, machinery, and equipment safely

  • Apply occupational health and safety standards in workshop environments

  • Complete logbooks, assessments, and trade-related documentation

  • Demonstrate discipline, reliability, and commitment throughout the apprenticeship


Minimum Requirements

  • Technical Matric, NCV Level 4, or N2 Certificate

  • Mathematics and Physical Science passed

  • Relevant trade theory related to welding

  • Strong interest in becoming a qualified artisan

  • Willingness to commit fully to the apprenticeship duration

  • Devotion, enthusiasm, and physical ability suited to the welding trade


Important Eligibility Notes

  • Applicants who already hold a trade certificate in any related trade will not be considered

  • Submission of fraudulent information or documents will lead to immediate disqualification

  • Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged individuals and women

Stipend Information

  • Apprentices will receive a fixed monthly stipend of R2 792.44

  • The stipend supports learners during training and is not a permanent salary
