Job Overview
The Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology at Wits University is seeking a qualified Lecturer to join the Pharmacology Division on a full-time basis.
The successful candidate will contribute significantly to teaching, academic administration, student supervision, and laboratory or clinical research activities. This role is ideal for an academic professional passionate about pharmacology education and advancing research in the health sciences.
The position offers the opportunity to build a strong academic and research profile while contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Key Responsibilities
- Lecture all aspects of Pharmacology
- Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
- Support teaching and learning activities
- Perform administrative duties within the division, school, faculty, and university
- Undertake laboratory and clinical pharmacology research
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Secure research grants and funding
- Develop and maintain specialist research areas
- Contribute to third-stream income initiatives
- Support academic and research excellence within the division
Qualifications
Education
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant degree with Pharmacology plus one of the following:
- MSc (Pharmacology) [BHSc]
- MPharm (Pharmacology) [BPharm]
- MMed (Clinical Pharmacology) [MBBCh]
- Qualification may be completed or submitted
Preferred
- PhD in Pharmacology (completed or submitted)
Experience
- Previous teaching experience in Pharmacology at tertiary level (preferred)
- Research experience in laboratory or clinical pharmacology
- Student supervision experience at tertiary level
- Academic administration experience
- Grant funding or proposal writing experience (advantageous)
