🛠️ Position Overview

The Workshop Assistant plays a critical role in supporting the Workshop Foreman and technicians with day-to-day workshop operations. This position involves technical assistance, equipment preparation, cleaning duties, tool control, and ensuring the workshop environment is maintained to high safety and efficiency standards.

This role is hands-on, dynamic, and ideal for someone with a strong mechanical aptitude, physical stamina, and pride in delivering quality, detailed work.


🔧 Key Responsibilities

Technical & Mechanical Support

  • Assist technicians with machine adjustments, repairs, maintenance, and part replacements.

  • Support the preparation of machinery for spray painting.

  • Help with forklift tyre fitment and movement of machines across the yard.

  • Provide physical assistance during repairs, installations, or machine assessments.

Workshop & Equipment Care

  • Clean, lubricate, and maintain tools, machines, equipment, and vehicles.

  • Perform general cleaning and parts washing to support efficiency and safety.

  • Maintain high workshop housekeeping standards, including cleaning oil spills, managing waste, and ensuring tools are properly stored.

Tool Store & Asset Control

  • Oversee the shared tool store, ensuring tools are checked, issued, and returned responsibly.

  • Ensure all mandatory inspections, load tests, and pressure tests are completed before due dates.

Workshop Operations & Logistics

  • Retrieve tools, parts, and consumables from the store, ensuring proper handling and documentation.

  • Ensure machine allocation and movement aligns with ASEC requirements.

  • Perform additional tasks as requested by the Workshop Foreman.

Safety & Compliance

  • Operate equipment and tools safely and correctly, with or without supervision.

  • Adhere to all workshop safety protocols, PPE use, and company procedures.

  • Maintain a safety-conscious mindset at all times.


🧠 Required Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

Technical Knowledge:

  • Practical understanding of tools, machines, and mechanical systems.

  • Experience in stripping and reassembling machinery.

  • Ability to perform minor repairs and troubleshooting on equipment.

Personal Qualities:

  • Strong work ethic: reliable, honest, hardworking, and quality-focused.

  • High levels of energy, good physical health, and ability to lift, carry, bend, and stand for long periods.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to converse, read, and write in English.
