Role Overview

STADIO invites suitably qualified and experienced candidates to apply for the Lecturer: Xitsonga Language contract position. The role focuses on delivering high-quality online teaching within the Bachelor of Education (Foundation Phase Teaching) programme.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing Xitsonga language modules while actively contributing to curriculum development, quality assurance, and student academic support in a digital learning environment.

  • Xitsonga Home Language 1 – DL Ya

  • Language Conversational Xitsonga – DL LCXTS152 (Semester 2a)

  • Language Conversational Xitsonga – DL LCXTS152 (Semester 2b)

  • Literacy Xitsonga Home Language 2 – DL XTSLI301 (Semester 1a)

  • Literacy Xitsonga Home Language 2 – DL XTSLI301 (Semester 1b)

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver three live online lectures per module

  • Facilitate effective online teaching and learning aligned with curriculum outcomes

  • Assess student work in line with institutional assessment policies

  • Provide constructive and timely feedback to students

  • Engage with coordinating lecturers and programme coordinators to enhance teaching quality

  • Use the learning management system independently and collaboratively

  • Carry out internal pre- and post-moderation responsibilities

  • Participate in assessment discussions and provide feedback on outcomes and challenges

  • Provide structured academic support to students

  • Conduct weekly student consultations and additional consultations upon request

  • Identify and manage students at risk in accordance with institutional policies and SOPs

  • Maintain prompt and professional communication with students, colleagues, and management

  • Contribute to the scholarship of teaching and learning and share best practices within the STADIO community

  • Complete all quality assurance, compliance, and reporting requirements

  • Ensure administrative accuracy, efficiency, and policy compliance

  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and relevant committees as required

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor of Education Honours or an equivalent qualification with relevant specialisation in Xitsonga

  • At least three years’ teaching and/or lecturing experience in the relevant phase and discipline

  • Proven experience in curriculum and learning material development

  • Experience in online and blended teaching and learning environments

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong teaching, learning, and assessment competencies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Sound interpersonal and student engagement skills

  • Strong organisational and coordination abilities

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines

  • High level of computer proficiency

  • Practical knowledge of online learning platforms and digital tools

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within academic teams

  • Adaptability and resilience in a changing academic environment

  • Willingness to work on Saturdays when required
