About the Role
We are seeking a committed Youth Probation Officer to strengthen our core team in the Flevoland/Utrecht region. In this key role, you will combine your expertise and empathy to help youth and young adults (12-23 years old) who are at risk of criminal behavior or have already come into contact with juvenile criminal law. Your mission? To prevent recidivism, ensure safety, and empower youth to become active participants in society.
As a Youth Probation Officer, you will manage a caseload, working intensively with young people and collaborating with chain partners like municipalities, the police, educational institutions, and healthcare providers to offer holistic support. Your goal will be to guide young people through their challenges, helping them break the cycle of crime and giving them the tools to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
As a Youth Probation Officer, you will:
- 🗣️ Provide Direct Guidance: Conduct one-on-one sessions with young people, offering clear guidance and support through tough cases.
- 📝 Balance Case Management: Split your time between in-person sessions with young people and managing administrative tasks such as file updates and case documentation.
- 🤝 Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with colleagues and chain partners (e.g., police, Public Prosecution Service, schools) to provide an effective approach and ensure comprehensive support.
- 📊 Monitor Progress: Track the young person’s progress, adjust care plans as needed, and collaborate with other agencies to ensure the best outcomes.
- 🧠 Crisis Management: Be prepared to respond to emergency situations, working as part of a team to ensure the safety of young people.
- 👥 Case Discussions & Team Meetings: Participate in regular case reviews and meetings with colleagues to share insights, brainstorm solutions, and continuously improve practices.
What We Offer
- 💸 Competitive Salary: €3,472 to €5,217 per month based on a 36-hour week (Youth Care Collective Labor Agreement, Scale 10).

What We’re Looking For
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- 🎓 A completed HBO education in Social Work, Applied Psychology, Pedagogy, or a similar field.
- 🗝️ SKJ Registration (required).
- ⚖️ Knowledge of Juvenile Criminal Law (preferred but not essential).
- 💼 Previous experience as a Youth Probation Officer (advantageous).
- 💬 Strong communication skills – both verbal and written, with the ability to have meaningful conversations with clients and write clear reports.
- 🧠 Empathy and Resilience – The energy, courage, and perseverance to work with challenging cases and achieve positive outcomes, even in difficult circumstances.
- 🧑🤝🧑 Affinity for Working with Youth with Mild Intellectual Disabilities (LVB) is a plus.
