Job Overview

Absa is seeking a Specialist Networking Engineer to join its platform engineering team in Randburg. The role focuses on designing, building, optimising, and maintaining scalable and secure networking platforms that support enterprise systems and digital services.

The successful candidate will work within an agile environment, applying cloud networking, automation, and DevOps principles to deliver high-quality infrastructure solutions. This role requires strong technical expertise in networking technologies, cloud platforms, and system optimisation.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and optimise networking platform features and components
Apply platform engineering expertise to support business and customer requirements
Build scalable, secure, and maintainable network solutions
Improve and contribute to the full engineering lifecycle process
Identify and resolve technical issues and system defects
Implement object-oriented design principles and engineering best practices
Develop test frameworks and ensure system reliability and performance
Monitor platform performance and translate data into actionable insights
Support incident management and root cause analysis processes
Ensure compliance with governance, security, and IT risk standards
Collaborate across teams to manage dependencies and deliver solutions
Mentor and coach junior engineers and contribute to team development
Drive automation and optimisation using DevOps practices
Maintain technical documentation and solution blueprints
Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or related field (NQF Level 7)
Bachelor’s Degree at NQF Level 8 is preferred

Certifications

Cisco CCNA or CCNP (preferred)
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
GitHub Foundations Certification (advantageous)
Knowledge of ITIL frameworks (advantageous)

Experience

Minimum 3+ years’ experience in networking environments
Hands-on experience with Cisco networking technologies
Exposure to cloud networking (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Experience with DevOps tools such as GitHub and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
Experience with automation tools such as Ansible and Python scripting
Understanding of system performance monitoring and optimisation

Skills

Strong networking and infrastructure engineering knowledge
Cloud networking and hybrid infrastructure understanding
DevOps and automation capability
Problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
Strong collaboration and communication abilities
Ability to work in agile, fast-paced environments
Knowledge of Python scripting (advantageous)
Understanding of IT governance, risk, and compliance frameworks
Strong documentation and technical design skills
